None of us can fail to be aware of the marathon effort being made by the global community to help everyone affected by Saturday's magnitude 7.8 earthquake which struck the north-west of Kathmandu, triggering avalanches on Everest but far greater devastation in surrounding areas.
Tashi Sherpa, owner and founder of Sherpa Adventure Gear, is in Kathmandu and masterminding a relief effort on the ground through the company’s charity the Paldorje Education Fund. He explains that the biggest and most urgent need now is for shelter, especially in the remote villages where everything has been flattened.
Sherpa Adventure Gear is currently sewing up and making around 400 simple waterproof tents from their stock of hard shell waterproof fabrics and about 500 fleece blankets for distribution. Tashi Sherpa is using funds towards a myriad of things from buying packets of food for feeding desperate families lined up outside hospitals, to sourcing tarps and ropes and getting a local micro bus driver to take volunteers to the worst hit areas and deliver vital supplies. Many of Sherpa Adventure Gear’s own staff has lost their homes too. If you can help, the most effective effort is to send money directly through relief funds and Sherpa Adventure Gear UK have set up the ‘Help Sherpas Help Nepal’ fund and the link to it is below:
