It is very easy to manufacture ‘heritage’ and ‘cool’ these days and at Countryside Ski & Climb we make it our business to seek out the genuine from the phoney as great ideas are worth spreading. Inspired by the courier bags the NYC cycle messengers used to use in the 70’s, Rob Honeycutt, a cycle messenger himself in 1989 San Francisco, took the leap to start manufacturing his own bags in a backstreet garage.

Chlorine-free Wool
Raw, untreated wool has scales that make it itchy and coarse and cause it to shrink, so most wool fabrics are treated with chlorine to reduce the scales. But chlorine is a pervasive pollutant that’s especially harmful to organisms living in water and soil. Patgonia remove the scales from their merino wool fibers using a unique chlorine-free process that’s bluesign approved.
Technology:
Patagonia seeks to build the best product and cause no unnecessary harm. That's their mission statement, and it takes many forms. As it applies to making products, Patagonia works hard to source materials and use processes that are less harmful to the Earth without compromising quality. Patagonia firmly believes that quality is not only how well a product performs and holds up, but also how it's made.
