Show up with a sack full of ale and a pair of Bagleys, and you'll make friends anywhere. OK, the beer will make the friends, but the shoes won't alienate them. The Bagley owes its low-key style to a leather upper (tanned to high ISO-14001 environmental standards) with a contrasting side panel. An EVA-foam wedge midsole (15% recycled) and board lasting provide a smooth, supportive ride. The non-marking, non-slip rubber outsole has 20% recycled content.

- EVA wedge construction with 15% recycled content
- Non-marking, non-slip rubber outsole with 20% recycled rubber
- Thicker recycled EVA insole provides all-day comfort
- Board-lasted construction for support and durability
- Medium width, full toe box, medium arch/instep

Hevea Milk

The latex Patagonia use comes from milk harvested from the hevea tree. Not only is the harvesting process good for the tree, helping boost milk production, but the milk itself has a certain microstructure that when cured creates thousands of tiny cushioning air bubbles. So you’ll tread lighter, and you’ll be a lot more comfortable doing it.

Better Leather

Before sourcing any leather, Patagonia did their homework. What they found was that all leather does not have the same impact on the environment. To ensure that the leather in their footwear leaves the smallest possible footprint, they use tanneries with an ISO 14001 registration. This strict set of environmental standards measures how efficiently a company uses natural resources, how its processes impact the environment, and how closely it adheres to local and international environmental regulations. We think companies that measure up to ISO 14001 produce leather that’s better for shoes and better for the planet.

The Buzz on Hemp

Hemp may be one of the most useful, and misunderstood, crops ever cultivated. It has a very short growing cycle, requires relatively little water and no pesticides, and is extremely resistant to molds and bacteria. Its root structure even helps prevent erosion. Shoes made with hemp require no break-in period, breathe better and smell better than those made from leather or synthetics, and are less prone to bacterial buildup, which is a lot healthier on the feet. Patagonia use hemp in a variety of ways, all of them legal, including as a substrate in some soles as well as a material for uppers.

Smart Step

During the shoe-manufacturing process, scrap rubber is left on the cutting-room floor. But that doesn’t mean it has to end up in a landfill. A number of Patagonia's soles are made with Ecostep™, a Vibram®- formulated compound that uses up to 30% recycled scrap rubber that would otherwise be thrown away. Ecostep is highly abrasion resistant and provides great traction in all kinds of weather and terrain.
